“I prefer not to disclose my strategies when it comes to contract negotiations because that's something I never reveal. However, if you've followed my previous interviews, you would know that I always prefer to know where I'll be racing next year. I had an unpleasant experience with the uncertainty at Renault, and I don't want to go through that again.”
Despite the rumors circulating, Sainz asserted that he is not overly concerned. He remarked,
“Honestly, I don't think it's necessary to worry too much because I understand that this time of year always brings about such rumors. It's the silly season, as they say. Having been in F1 for over eight years, I'm well aware that this is the time when such things happen.”
While there have been rumors linking Sainz to a potential move to Audi when they enter Formula 1 in 2026, he stated that his main priority is to avoid a situation like 2018, where he drove for Renault without knowing his destination for the following season.
Sainz made it clear, saying,
“I don't want to disclose my strategies when it comes to contract negotiations because that's something I never reveal.”
His current contract with Ferrari expires at the end of the upcoming season, and there have been reports suggesting that the team is interested in signing Lewis Hamilton, whose Mercedes contract ends in 2023.
Both Hamilton and Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur dismissed these reports ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix. However, uncertainty still lingers regarding Sainz's future, given his less-than-convincing start to the 2023 campaign.
