According to reports, the Department of State Services (DSS) made an unexpected appearance at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) office in Lagos on Monday, May 29. They claimed ownership of the building located on Awolowo Road in Lagos.
However, the DSS responded to the reports, denying that they barricaded the EFCC from entering their own office. In a statement by their spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, the DSS clarified that they were merely occupying their own facility to carry out their official duties and responsibilities.
Additionally, the DSS emphasized that there is no dispute over the ownership of No 15A Awolowo Road, contrary to media speculations. The DSS spokesperson mentioned that it would be surprising if the EFCC was contesting the ownership since the location has historical significance as the former headquarters of the National Security Organization (NSO), from which the SSS/DSS originated.
The statement from the DSS stressed that there is no rivalry between their agency and the EFCC. They highlighted that both organizations are partners working together for the benefit of the nation. They urged everyone to dismiss any false information regarding a conflict between them.
