I didn’t take bribe – LP factional chairman, Lamidi Apapa says as He sends strong warning to Peter Obi

The Labour Party (LP) is currently embroiled in internal turmoil as the factional chairman, Lamidi Apapa, has issued a strong warning to the party's former presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Apapa, who claims to be the authentic national chairman of the party, faced a tumultuous time at the election petition tribunal, leading to a heated exchange and an unpleasant reception from party supporters.

Apapa's grievances stem from his belief that Obi is aligning himself with Julius Abure, the LP chairman who was recently removed by the court. In a press conference held after the chaotic court session, Apapa expressed his disappointment with Obi and vowed to expose him. While he did not disclose the specific details of his intentions, Apapa strongly denied the allegations of accepting bribes from other political parties to undermine the LP from within.

Challenging the accusations, Apapa declared, “On the allegation of bribe taking, it's not true. If you have evidence to prove that I have collected money or we've collected money from anybody, bring your evidence. It's absolutely untrue.” Furthermore, he criticized Obi for seemingly disavowing their acquaintance, claiming to possess evidence that contradicts Obi's denial of knowing him.

Apapa went on to recall instances where he actively supported Obi during his campaign, including offering the opening prayer at Obi's primary in Asaba and accompanying him on trips. Feeling betrayed by Obi's alleged lack of recognition, Apapa voiced his disappointment, stating, “And he doesn't know me? The reasons are this: This is a man, during his primary in Asaba, I did the opening prayer… I have held a lot of positions in this party to the level I am today.”

The tensions between Lamidi Apapa and Peter Obi within the Labour Party continue to escalate, creating an uncertain and divisive atmosphere for the party's future.
