Jubilation as Supreme court upholds Ademola Adeleke’s victory, supporter celebrates in court
On Tuesday, the camp of Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State, rejoiced as the Supreme Court confirmed his victory in the governorship election held on July 16, 2022.
Jubilation erupted among the supporters of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the court premises, right after the justices of the Supreme Court dismissed an appeal made by Gboyega Oyetola, the former Governor of Osun State, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
As we had reported earlier, the Supreme Court held that Oyetola failed to provide sufficient evidence to back up his claims of overvoting during the governorship election. The panel also ruled unanimously that the Osun State election tribunal's failure to address the preliminary objections raised by Adeleke and the PDP at the trial stage amounted to a denial of fair hearing, thereby making the entire process null and void.
All five members of the panel, led by Justice John Okoro, endorsed and adopted the judgment. They also stated that Oyetola's appeal was without merit. The supporters of Adeleke were overjoyed with the outcome of the case, and there were scenes of celebration in court.
