MET Gala 2023: How Rihanna looks in big flowers Valentino dress
This year, at the 2023 Met Gala, which honors the life and work of Karl Lagerfeld, Rihanna wore a white Valentino gown with oversized floral details as an homage to her late friend.
Although she arrived late after the carpet had ended, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky made a stunning entrance.
She wore a monochromatic white look with huge flowers that doubled as a hood and long sleeves draped over a white ballgown. Completing the look with white sunglasses and red lips, she continued to make her own rules even in maternity wear.
The dress was so massive that it covered many of the Met steps (something she is accustomed to) and Rihanna made sure that all eyes were on her as she walked into the party, officially shutting down the red carpet.
Last year, Rihanna arrived very late with her boyfriend, A$AP Rocky, in a long black gown that received criticism for not following the theme. However, Rihanna, being Rihanna, brushed off the haters and explained that the gown was an interpretation of a black hoodie. It was a statement in response to the issue of police brutality that was making headlines in America at the time. With the theme being “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” Rihanna knew exactly what she was doing.
“I wanted a look that seemed very powerful yet feminine, yet a black hoodie which is the thing that we're usually incriminated by as Black people,” she told Essence. “I wanted to empower that and take that and make it mine and make it fashion.”
Of course, Rihanna's most memorable Met Gala appearance was in 2015 when she wore a bold yellow gown designed by Guo Pei for the “China: Through the Looking Glass” exhibit. Though the gown became a viral sensation and was subject to many jokes, it became a legend in Met Gala history.
