- DSS has clarified that suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, is not in their custody.
- The DSS made this announcement through their official Twitter account
- Previously, there were unverified reports suggesting that Emefiele had been arrested by DSS operatives following his suspension by President Bola Tinubu.
The Department of State Services (DSS) took to their official Twitter handle on Saturday, June 10, 2023, to clarify that Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, is not in their custody.
This statement comes after President Bola Tinubu suspended Emefiele from his position and unconfirmed reports suggested that the DSS had arrested him.
Peter Afunaya, the DSS spokesperson, stated that he could not confirm the arrest when asked by journalists.
In a tweet, the DSS stated, “Currently, Emefiele is not with the DSS.”
President Tinubu's suspension of Emefiele involved immediate effect, and he was instructed to hand over his responsibilities to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the CBN governor during the investigation and reforms.
However, the DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunaya, refrained from confirming the arrest, leaving the reports unverified.
