Ndoni, Rivers State — Fox Nigeria reports that Rivers State Hotel owner is no where to be found after torturing a worker, Nancy to death over missing N17,500.
The tragic incident occurred involving a woman named Nnenna Onu Obini, also known as Nancy, from Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. Nnenna was employed at Nwanyioma Hotel in Ebocha, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State. It is reported that she was subjected to torture and ultimately lost her life due to an allegation of N17,500 being missing from her daily sales.
A reliable source close to the deceased's family informed SaharaReporters that after completing her work on Tuesday, June 13, Nnenna prepared the account report for the day's sales and submitted it to the hotel management. However, N17,500 was found to be missing from her report. Despite Nnenna having paid the missing amount, with evidence to support this, the hotel owner, whose name is yet to be confirmed, insisted that she must still be held responsible. As a result, Nnenna was locked in a room for an agonizing three days and three nights without food or water.
During this harrowing period, Nnenna desperately banged on the door and called for help, but her pleas went unanswered. When the door was finally opened after three days, she was found lying on the floor, struggling for breath. She was immediately rushed to a clinic, but sadly, she passed away there.
The hotel management, realizing the gravity of the situation, sent a representative to the deceased's family to discuss a possible resolution, offering monetary compensation. However, the family expressed their firm determination to seek justice for their daughter's dehumanization and untimely death, rather than accepting financial restitution.
A meeting was arranged between the deceased's family, the hotel management, and the Omoku Police Division in the state. Unfortunately, an agreement could not be reached as the family insisted on justice, emphasizing their desire for the responsible parties to be held accountable rather than pursuing monetary compensation.
The source also revealed that Nnenna was taken to a clinic instead of a standard hospital, raising questions about the urgency and appropriateness of the medical response. Furthermore, it was disclosed that the hotel owner is currently evading authorities, adding another layer of complexity to the situation.
During the meeting with the family, the Omoku Police Division, and the hotel management, the hotel admitted to all the allegations that led to the death of their female employee. However, the fact that Nwayioma Hotel in Ebocha is still operating normally raises concerns about the value placed on human life in our society.
SaharaReporters attempted to reach out to the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Grace Iringe-Koko, for confirmation and comments regarding the police's efforts in securing justice for the deceased. In response, she sent a text message stating, “I will get back to you please.”
