Accept Tribunal's verdict when it's delivered – tells Nigerians

General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), a former Head of State, has urged Nigerians to accept the verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal with good faith, whenever it is delivered.

The hearing of the election petition tribunal is set to commence on May 8, and Gowon has called on Nigerians to accept the judgement of the court when delivered.

He made this submission on Thursday at a symposium in honour of a one-time Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Chike Idigbe. Gowon emphasized that the judiciary plays a vital role in the unity of the country, and appealed to Nigerians to allow the judiciary to do its work without interference.

The Peoples Democratic Party () and (LP) flag bearers, Atiku Abubakar and , contested the results of the 202 presidential election, while the candidate of the All Progressive Congress(APC) and now President-Elect, Bola , scored 8.8 million votes. Atiku came second with 6.9 million votes, and Obi third to poll 6.1 million votes and 15 others. It remains to be seen what the verdict of the tribunal will be.

Several dignitaries were in attendance at the event, including the former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Alfa Belgore; Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola; Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Clem Agba; and some Senior Advocates of Nigeria.

tried to lure Tinubu to PDP in 2018

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday shared a story on how he tried to get President-elect, Bola Tinubu to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2018.

He said they met late at night at Tinubu's home in Lagos, but the offer was declined.

The governor revealed this at a state banquet in Port Harcourt.

Wike said, “I met him first in 2018 around 2 am in his house -Bourdillon. I was sent to go and talk to him, about how he can join us. I went to him, I said sir, I hear you can't find your feet again in APC. Why not join us and let's support one of these our candidates to win the 2019 election?

“He asked me. Who are these your candidates, I mentioned them. He said look, if it is these ones you have, I will support (Muhammadu) 200 times. He told me that. And I respected him.”
